The Five Tools of Academic Workforce Housing

As populations grow and housing supply falls behind demand, campuses across North America are being forced to consider housing solutions as an important element of recruiting and retaining academic talent. These housing solutions are collectively known as Academic Workforce Housing.

Historically, Academic Workforce Housing solutions have been used at institutions located in higher-priced real estate markets, mostly in coastal urban areas. However, with the cost of real estate rising, institutions outside of these areas have or are in the process of establishing programs, including unexpected areas like the Rocky Mountain West and the Piedmont.

In this session, you will learn about Five Tools of Academic Workforce Housing: assisting with the cost of housing, building housing, buying real estate, lending, and empowering employees by educating them on the options and programs available to them.  The session will also review several examples of successful Academic Workforce Housing programs both large and small.
