The Student Life Ecosystem: Rethinking the Higher Education Business Model for Student Success

The goal of improving and measuring student success has a direct relationship to the access of services and amenities on campus. Robust services that universities provide are sometimes not maximized due to physical locations. Departmental boundaries can create barriers to convenience through the eyes of the student experience.

What if we considered a different business model for higher ed, one that prioritized the student experience rather than financial reporting lines? How can existing assets be assessed to support student success and ensure every student crossing their threshold felt a sense of belonging and connectedness? Too often the student experience requires the student to go to locations supporting the business model of services rather than a path that aligns with what is most convenient for access. Services that are out of sight could be out of mind, leading to poor performance.

With the foundation of a critical study on this topic, this session will moderate a panel discussion about the possibilities and potential for a reset. We will discuss the intersections of residential life, student common spaces, dining and food service, fitness and recreation, and well-being.
